Tracer Tong gives me an ominous, and yet completely unnecessary warning: The music here in the Paris club has a certain teeth-grinding effect that makes it especially difficult to concentrate on the game.įor now, I turn down the volume in the audio options. The theme of the paranoid conspiracy theorists being right, and the rational reasonable people refuting them being wrong, is grating in a way I cannot express.Īnd the music, with the sole exception of Hong Kong Markets, has ranged from forgettable to actively annoying, because they are simply not compatible with my usual tastes. The general Dark and Dingy aesthetic is depressing and unpleasant. I cannot suspend my disbelief of the bonkers plot, possibly because I require help to do so, and the game does not provide that assistance. I might create a more complete list when (if) I finish the game, but the trend is beginning to take shape: I have no emotional connection with the conspiracy theories, all unfamiliar to me, and the way DX presents them is not interesting to me. This is beginning to reinforce my suspicions that I don't actually like this game's themes, and so it is interfering with my desire to see why Deus Ex has been praised so highly. not actually anything special, apart from the incredibly annoying music in the background.
